Project overview:

We are looking for a Tech Lead / AI Architect who will serve as both a hands-on senior engineer and the technical leader for an AI-driven healthcare platform. This role combines system architecture ownership, production-level coding, and technical leadership, with a strong emphasis on building reliable, explainable AI-enabled workflows. This is not a research or theory-focused AI role. The successful candidate will design and implement end-to-end systems, balancing AI capabilities with classic software engineering concerns such as scalability, security, maintainability, and compliance.

Requirements:

Core Engineering

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience;
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • Node.js and TypeScript,
    • REST APIs and service-oriented architectures,
    • relational and analytical databases.
  • Proven ability to design and maintain complex backend systems.

Cloud & Infrastructure

  • Strong experience with AWS, including:
    • VPCs, IAM, networking, and security best practices,
    • managed services (e.g., ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS/Redshift).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code concepts.

AI & Data Systems

  • Practical experience integrating LLMs or AI services into production systems;
  • Experience with:
    • prompt design for structured outputs,
    • AI evaluation and error analysis,
    • AI explainability and provenance.
  • Understanding of AI system risks (hallucinations, drift, brittleness) and mitigation techniques.

Architecture & Design

  • Strong background in:
    • distributed systems,
    • event-driven architectures,
    • data modeling and schema evolution.
  • Ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term maintainability.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated domains;
  • Familiarity with HL7, FHIR, or EHR integrations;
  • Experience designing systems with auditability and compliance requirements;
  • Prior experience in technical leadership roles (Tech Lead, Staff Engineer, Architect).

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Own the overall system architecture, ensuring consistency across services, data models, and APIs;
  • Make and document architectural decisions covering:
    • backend services,
    • event-driven workflows,
    • data ingestion and transformation,
    • integration with external systems (HIEs, EHRs).
  • Ensure the platform is scalable, secure, and auditable, especially in regulated environments.

Hands-On Engineering

  • Actively contribute production-quality code (Node.js, TypeScript, AWS);
  • Review and guide the implementation of:
    • ingestion pipelines,
    • AI-powered agents and workflows,
    • backend APIs,
    • frontend integration points.
  • Set and enforce coding standards, testing strategies, and performance benchmarks.

AI & Agent Design

  • Design AI-enabled components using AWS Bedrock (including Agents, prompt orchestration, and tool use);
  • Ensure AI outputs are:
    • grounded in source data,
    • explainable and traceable,
    • safe and compliant.
  • Work closely with AI Engineers to define:
    • prompt patterns,
    • structured outputs,
    • evaluation and monitoring strategies.

System Reliability & Quality

  • Define strategies for:
    • observability,
    • error handling,
    • retries and fallbacks,
    • graceful degradation when AI services fail.
  • Collaborate with DevOps to ensure robust CI/CD and infrastructure practices;
  • Support QA by defining testability and non-functional requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Product Managers and Business Analysts to translate requirements into technical designs;
  • Work with clinical or domain SMEs to ensure the correctness and safety of decision logic;
  • Act as the technical point of contact for architecture discussions with stakeholders and partners.
